Powell River Ocean Fishing Seasons

Fishing is available year round, with May-September being Peak Season

Chinook salmon fishing is the crown jewel of our local fishery.  Without a doubt, Powell River is one of the most productive Chinook fisheries on the coast of BC, and is open for most of the year, subject to changes in regulations. Currently, fishing is available in Jervis Inlet, it will open in the Salish Sea on July 15th. Be sure to check for updates on regulations to make the most of your fishing experience!
1 per person- 62-80cm slot limit size restriction

Coho Salmon fishing has been fantastic the last few years, with retention regulations subject to change.  Currently closed but anticipate opening in June.
 

Ling Cod Fishing open as of May 1st.  Techniques for cathching these tasty critters include trolling bottom, jigging and most effectivly, live bait fishing.  
1 Per person, minnimim 65cm

Rockfish fishing is solid here in the Salish Sea.  Common species encountered include Quillback, Copper, Canary and Dusky.  
Limit of 1 per person

Crab fishing can be great here in the Powell River area.  Targeted species include Dungeness and Box crabs, which are fished at depths between 30-160ft. 
Dungeness crab limit- 4 per person, 165mm minimum size
Box crab- 1 per person
Red Rock crab- 115mm minimum size
